Veterinary Nurse – Emergency and Critical Care
Dandenong, Victoria
Perhaps you’re a vet nurse with a background in GP but are looking for something different? Perhaps you’re an experienced ECC nurse looking for a new challenge?
Our department is looking for FT and PT nurses to work with us in the exciting world of Emergency and Critical Care at VRH and you could be a perfect fit!
ECC nursing at VRH encompasses a variety of roles including ICU and hospital nursing, support and float roles as well as triage and patient stabilisation, so no two shifts are ever the same! You’ll be able to work in roles that are best suited to you and your capabilities meaning you may be able to jump straight in as an experienced ECC nurse or you may want some additional training and guidance as you learn the ropes. A dedicated ECC Nursing Team Leader will ensure you’re always comfortable with the work you do and that you feel continually supported. Not to mention our team of wonderful nurses and vets – including a specialist in Emergency & Critical Care (Criticalist) – who always look out for and encourage one another.
VRH benefits from having multiple departments on site including ECC, Anaesthesia, Oncology, Neurology, Imaging, Internal Medicine and Surgery which ensures we give our patients the best care possible. Everyone works together and participates in hospital rounds each morning to help us achieve the best results for our patients every day. Seeing a patient go home after spending days, even weeks, in hospital is always so rewarding and it’s wonderful knowing we all pull together at VRH to make these outcomes possible.
So – if arterial and central lines, invasive blood pressure monitoring, wound management, blood and plasma products and nurturing the critically ill back to health excited you… Or if the adrenaline, focus and teamwork involved in performing CPR, treating trauma and toxicity or stabilising critical patients interests you then ECC could be your calling.
As we operate 24 hours, 7 days a week. Shift work is required for ECC including days, nights, weekends and public holidays.
To be successful you will be able to demonstrate the following:
• Qualifications as a Veterinary Nurse, minimum Certificate IV or equivalent;
• At least 2 years’ experience in the veterinary industry;
• Exceptional organisation and communication skills;
• Ability to work as part of a team, whilst demonstrating initiative;
• A positive “we’ve got this” attitude;
• The ability to adapt to change and handle the unpredictable;
• Demonstrated skills in anaesthetic set-up, monitoring and surgery techniques;
Experience in referral hospitals is preferable but not essential.
If you are not quite sure, why not come and check us out to see if we are the team for you?
