Dr Leah Denman
Leah was born and grew up in Somerset (South West) England before graduating from Edinburgh University in 1997. After working in a rural practice for 5 years, Leah decided that a holiday was in order and spent 12 months working her way along the West Coast of Australia. Having enjoyed this experience immensely, Leah decided to make the move permanent in 2003 and has been living in Townsville ever since. Leah enjoys all aspects of Veterinary work but especially enjoys surgery, including stifle (knee) repairs, cutaneous reconstruction (skin grafting etc) and pocket pets ( rats, mice and guinea pigs). Outside of work Leah enjoys spending time with her cat Halley.
I grew up in a small town of Ayr and from a very young age I always wanted to work with animals. I started working in a Veterinary practice as a nurse when I left school and worked there for 8yrs full time and then 5 years part time. I moved to Townsville with my husband and two children and started working for a business that specialised in equine products. It was seven years later that I decided I wanted to come back to the where my passion, the veterinary industry.
I have always been passionate about pets since I started as a School Based Trainee at the end of 2013. Since completing my Certificate II, I was employed as a Veterinary Nurse where I am now completing my Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. I love working in the Veterinary industry, at times it can be demanding but is also very rewarding. Seeing a sick patient going home will always puts a smile on your face. I couldn’t imagine life without pets.
I have always had a love for animals, completing a School Based traineeship in 2010 before stepping into the role of Veterinary Nurse. I am passionate about continuing my education and am currently completing a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. I absolutely love nursing and can’t see myself doing anything else! My world revolves around my two dogs Teddy and Renny and my three cats Kirby, Milko and Kevin.

I grew up in London and from a young age always loved animals. At school I excelled in science so it seemed only logical to combine my two loves and become a vet! I studied Veterinary Science at The Melbourne University. After graduating I worked in Mackay, then several locations in the UK and finally Townsville. I have extensive experience in medical case work up and also love soft tissue surgery. My interests lie not only in cats and dogs but birds, rats, mice and guinea pigs too. There are many things that I love about my job. Preventative medicine is vital and one of my strong passions. I also find it very rewarding to make sick pets well again. Nurturing staff and empowering their growth is another exciting part of my job. I regularly attend further education courses to ensure we are practicing the very best medicine and surgery. Outside of work I love spending time with family and friends. Townsville is a beautiful town with fantastic weather, excellent walking paths and natural attractions. Above all that though the friendly people are what I enjoy most!
