Primary Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Caring, handling and cleaning all animals;
  • Maintaining the overall hygiene of the practice, including surgical areas and equipment;
  • Undertaking general nursing tasks including: pre and post-operative care, pathology and emergency and critical care;
  • Delivering outstanding client care to all patients and owners;
  • Participating as an enthusiastic team member with a positive ‘go-getter’ attitude;
  • Administrative duties and associated tasks.

 

Qualities and Expertise

The ideal candidate will have the following qualities and expertise:

  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent;
  • 2+ years of experience working as a Veterinary Nurse;
  • Excellent phone manner, communication and customer service skills;
  • An extensive knowledge and understanding of veterinary nursing procedures;
  • Confidence in monitoring anaesthesia;
  • A calm and friendly professional with a sense of humour.

  • Reception duties including being the first point of contact for clients, handling client enquiries in person and over the phone, scheduling appointments, managing client accounts, admitting and discharging patients.

Qualities and Expertise

The ideal candidate will have the following qualities and expertise:

  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing;
  • Excellent animal handling skills;
  • An extensive knowledge and understanding of veterinary nursing procedures;
  • Exceptional organisation, communication and customer service skills;
  • Flexible and adaptable within a team environment;
  • Recently qualified nurses encouraged to apply
  • Knowledge of RX Works Ideal but not essential.

We are equipped with digital x-ray, ultrasound, dental x-ray, 2 surgery tables, and an IM3 dental unit. While the clinic does all the routine procedures like vaccinations, dentals and de-sexing we also see many emergency cases including tick paralysis and snake bite envenomation’s creating constant challenges and new experiences.

Redbank Plains is a Queensland suburb approximately 45 minutes from the Brisbane CBD. Home to local schools, shopping villages a variety of parks and public gardens the country feel lifestyle of Redbank plains stands as a perfect living area for young families.

Since my first day at the Greencross clinic I have felt welcome as part of the family. I started the Internship because I care greatly for animals and love the impact they have on my life. Everyone at my clinic seems to feel the same. I completed a certificate II in animal studies with the Internship and am currently undertaking studies for Certificate IV.

The practical nature of the Internship has given context to my course-work, and greatly accelerated my learning. I recommend the course to anyone considering becoming a veterinary nurse. The structure of the program, and the friendly like-minded people of Greencross make it a wonderful path to follow.

I thoroughly enjoyed the twelve months spent undertaking my Internship. The quality of the program is exceptional with easy to read text books and great people to work with who have had years to hone their skills, they are truly inspiring. The online component is super easy to use and makes every aspect of the internship much simpler – help, if not sourced in clinic, is only an email away.

I loved the hands on learning – this is how I learn best – the clinic staff helped me pick everything up quickly from the administrative duties to animal handling and diagnostics. I enjoyed being able to be in clinic watching surgery and emergency cases where only experience can ascertain positive results, everyone bands together and its extremely fulfilling when you succeed in helping such beautiful creatures. I would highly recommend the course to anyone thinking about pursuing a career in Veterinary Nursing. I could do such work all day every day for the rest of my life, it’s simply great.
