Primary Responsibilities

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

  • Caring, handling and cleaning all animals;
  • Maintaining the overall hygiene of the practice, including surgical areas and equipment;
  • Undertaking general nursing tasks, including pre and post-operative care, animal pathology and emergency and critical care;
  • Performing minor procedures when required;
  • Delivering outstanding client care to all patients and owners;
  • Participating as an enthusiastic team member with a positive ‘go-getter’ attitude;
  • Handling client enquiries professionally in person, by email and over the phone;
  • Administration duties and associated tasks.

 

Qualities and Expertise

The ideal candidate will have the following qualities and expertise:

  • Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent;
  • 2+ years of experience working as a Veterinary Nurse;
  • Excellent phone manner, communication skills and customer service skills;
  • An extensive knowledge and understanding of veterinary nursing procedures;
  • A calm and friendly professional with a sense of humour;
  • An amazing ‘can do’, team player attitude.

New full-time role for Cairns, QLD is available for a passionate and enthusiastic Veterinary Graduate to join our Greencross Veterinary teams. You will also experience rotations within our specialty and emergency centres within your first 12 months alongside a wide range of other development opportunities.

 Graduate Program includes:  

 12-month education program that is both hands on and online workshop programs

  • 4 weeks paid annual leave per year PLUS 5 weeks of paid study leave (clinic placements/workshops);
  • Experience gained across both a specific Clinic and Region;
  • A choice of two internal electives including specialty, emergency, routine surgery, and medicine during your four-week placement;
  • Inclusion into our world class Greencross Vet internal education programs;

Since my first day at the Greencross clinic I have felt welcome as part of the family. I started the Internship because I care greatly for animals and love the impact they have on my life. Everyone at my clinic seems to feel the same. I completed a certificate II in animal studies with the Internship and am currently undertaking studies for Certificate IV.

The practical nature of the Internship has given context to my course-work, and greatly accelerated my learning. I recommend the course to anyone considering becoming a veterinary nurse. I thoroughly enjoyed the twelve months spent undertaking my Internship. The quality of the program is exceptional with easy to read text books and great people to work with who have had years to hone their skills, they are truly inspiring. The online component is super easy to use and makes every aspect of the internship much simpler – help, if not sourced in clinic, is only an email away.

I loved the hands on learning – this is how I learn best – the clinic staff helped me pick everything up quickly from the administrative duties to animal handling and diagnostics. I enjoyed being able to be in clinic watching surgery and emergency cases where only experience can ascertain positive results, everyone bands together and its extremely fulfilling when you succeed in helping such beautiful creatures. I would highly recommend the course to anyone thinking about pursuing a career in Veterinary Nursing. I could do such work all day every day for the rest of my life, it’s simply great.
