Heartworm Prevention

Dr Elise Fookes

Dr Elise Fookes

Veterinarian
Elise is a recent Doctor of Veterinary Medicine graduate from the University of Melbourne. She is interested in all aspects of small animal medicine and is looking forward to getting to know all the local clients and their much-loved pets.
Outside of work Elise enjoys spending time exploring local cafes with her Golden Retriever named Kobe. She also has a cat, a very talkative silver tabby called Finn. Elise also has a keen interest in cycling, triathlon and basketball.

Sarah Gainsford

Veterinary Nurse
Sarah comes to us with a passion for pets; having grown up with a family farm and loving all animals great and small. She started vet nursing at a bird clinic in Burwood.
Having completed her Certificate II and Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing in 2012, she moved on to work in a shelter as an adoptions nurse; a role she found very rewarding.
Sarah has two dogs Yoda the puggle, Obi-Wan the Jack Russel and two rainbow lorikeets Emerald & Sapphire. Having had a variety of pets over the years including; cats, guinea pigs, mice, fish, a long neck turtle and a Shetland pony. In her free time she enjoys watching tv, writing, drawing and spending time with friends and family.

Veterinary Nurse

Stephanie completed her Certificate III in animal studies in 2018 and is currently undergoing her studies for Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.
She has enjoyed every minute of it and can’t wait to see what her journey brings.
Every day is a blessing and being able to spend her time helping people and their animals is something Stephanie finds incredibly rewarding.

When she isn’t at the clinic, you will often find her at the gym or spending time with friends and family. She also enjoys listening to music, water sports and drawing.

Fiona Rogers

Fiona Rogers

Fiona started working in the cattery while she was in school and is now working as a vet nurse. She completed her Bachelor of Science majoring in Zoology at the end of 2017. In her free time she can be found going for long walks with her Australian Shepherd Oscar, volunteering at Healesville Sanctuary or hanging with friends.

My name is Kahlie Huggard and I love working within the animal industry. You never know what your day is going to entail, which makes being a Veterinary Nurse so rewarding. My favourite animals are goats, as they are full of personality, and always make you laugh!

Katie shares a home with her husband, a rescue Aussie Bulldog called Indi and has also recently added to her clan, adopting the beloved clinic cat Pickles. Her interests are small animal nursing and emergency care. She is also passionate about caring for native wildlife after completing a recent placement with the Healesville sanctuary hospital.

Melissa Burton

Melissa Burton

Melissa joined the Ashburton team in 2017 and has been a veterinary nurse or practice manager for 18 years. Melissa’s favourite part of the job is helping our clients provide the best care for their pets. Feline medicine and behaviour is also an area Melissa has a keen interest in. Outside of work Melissa can usually be found spending time with her two horses, Hansel and Toby.

Veterinary Nurse
Sam is a Qualified Veterinary Nurse and has been nursing since 2013. She has an interest in Small Animal Medicine and Surgical Nursing. At the clinic she is known as the “Little Dog Whisperer” and always loves caring for the challenging small dogs that visit the clinic. At home she has a 7 year old adorable and cheeky Chihuahua x Mini Foxie named Lily-Rose. Her hobbies outside of work include attending live music, film and taking Lily to the dog park.

Danae Jayne

Danae Jayne

Danae is our head veterinary nurse, having completed her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and Diploma of Animal Technology in 2010. Danae has been nursing for more than eight years now and was awarded “Outstanding Veterinary Nurse of the Year (2013)” within the Greencross corporation. As her award suggests, and everyday practice demonstrates, Danae places her patients first delivering the best possible care and being of great assistance to the vets, ensuring all procedures run smoothly. She loves interacting with the patients and can often be found sneaking in a cuddle or two. When she is not in the clinic, Danae enjoys travelling and spending time with her family, friends, and furry family which consists of “Oreo” the Great Dane, “Ella” the Boxer x Red Heeler, “Willow” the DLH cat and her, not so furry, Blue Tongue Lizard, “Mr Lizard”.

Dr Matt Miller

Matt is the clinical director at Ashburton and boasts more than 25 years of clinical veterinary experience. He is passionate about all things medicine and surgery, and completed his Memberships in cat and dog medicine in 1995. When he’s not at the clinic offering the best in Veterinary care to your pets, you can find him hanging out with his family including his kids Phoebe and Jett, cheering on the Hawks, or listening to funk music with their Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Poppins. Matt continually strives to provide the best for his patients and is known for his high level of care for both patients and their human families.
