Desexing

Getting your pet desexed (neutered or spayed) is essential to their health. All Greencross Vets facilities are completely sterile and use the latest in surgical equipment.

Vaccinations

Prevention is the best medicine. Kitten and puppy vaccinations (injections) and adult pet vaccinations prevent disease. Get your pet’s vaccinations up-to-date.

Heartworm Prevention

Heartworm can be hard to detect, but it needn’t be hard to prevent. Greencross Vets recommends year round heartworm prevention. Ask your vet about prevention today.

Dentistry

Greencross Vets offer a range of dentistry services like cat and dog teeth cleaning. Consider us your pet’s veterinarian and dentist combined.

Puppy Pre-School

Greencross Vets Puppy School is an excellent starting point for owners wanting a well-managed and socialised pet. Courses run for four to six weeks. Click to learn more.

Ultrasound

An ultrasound is a painless diagnostic procedure that allows vets to take a closer look at your pet’s health. We only use the latest technology for the most accurate diagnoses.

X-ray/Radiology

Greencross Vets clinics are equipped with high-quality radiograph equipment including X-ray machines, automatic processors, and X-ray view equipment.

Clinical Pathology

Clinical pathology allows our vets to analyse and diagnose health conditions. Common laboratory tests include blood tests, urinalysis, faecal tests and biopsy examination.

Laboratory Testing

The latest in-house laboratory equipment allows our vets to perform a range of diagnostic tests to achieve accurate, rapid diagnosis of your pets’ health status.

Meet The Team

Dr Pamela Oppenlander

Dr Pamela Oppenlander

Pam Graduated from Melbourne University in 2007 and has been working in small animal practice since then. She joined the team at Greencross Hurstbridge in 2012. Pam has a special interest in feline medicine and has four of her own cats to keep her busy at home.

Dr Jim Kennedy

Dr Jim Kennedy

Jim graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1977. The past 20 years have been spent in a mixed animal practice in Yarra Valley, but has also spent time working in Geelong, Northern Territory and North Yorkshire. He is still very interested in all aspects of Vet small animal practice but has a special interest in Cardiology. Since graduating Jim has untaken further study and passed membership examinations to The Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Science, in both canine medicine and equine medicine. He is married and lives in the Yarra Valley, Jim has four children and (at present) has four dogs, four horses and six cats. He follows Geelong in the football and loves test cricket.

Frances van Kollenburg

Frances van Kollenburg

Frances has been a vet nurse for 11 years and is a local of Hurstbridge. She is owned by two very spoilt cats, one very spoilt dog and two goats. Frances is very interested in animal behavior and is undertaking a Cert IV in behavior through the Delta Society.

Helen Lee

Helen Lee

Helen is currently completing her Certificate IV in Vet Nursing. She has worked at Hurstbridge for just over 2 years and has 3 pets at home that she adores. Bobby the 3 year old Dalmation, Abby the 2 year old staffy, german shepherd, sharpei cross and Ava a domestic short hair that she was “fostering “ for Shannel and who has since made herself a permanent resident in Helens home.

Julie Shanhun

Julie Shanhun

Julie has been a vet nurse for 11 years and is also a qualified phlebotomist. She worked at the Greencross North Ringwood Clinic for 5 years before joining the Hurstbridge team. Her main focus at work is to provide the patients with the best standard of care possible. She has four grown up children at home plus an elderly Jack Russell terrier and 2 naughty cats.

Lena McMaster-Smith

Lena McMaster-Smith

Lena has a background in Human Dental Nursing of 7 years before joining the Animal Industry which is where her passion lies. She has been a vet nurse for 14 years of which 11 of those years have been spent working at Hurstbridge recently taking on the role of Practice manager. She has two children and two very spoilt and naughty cats, Gilbert and Annie. In her spare time Lena enjoys running, camping and spending time with her family.

Tayla Kenyon

Tayla Kenyon

Tayla is currently completing her certificate IV in veterinary nursing. She has been nursing for 3+ years and has previously worked at Greencross Caulfield South and Stud Park before joining the Hurstbridge team. Her loyal Jack Russell Squizzy has recently passed after a full life leaving behind the family rescue cat Willow. Tayla hopes to rescue a variety of animals once she moves with her partner TJ to their recently purchased property in Kinglake west.
